I am starting a new podcast project, Dialogues of a Peculiar Character. I will be interviewing people in and around the craft beer industry, starting with local breweries and businesses in suburban Maryland, right outside of Washington, DC and eventually throughout the rest of the state, the region and beyond as I travel more to find great conversations about beer and brewing.

Why the craft beer industry? I love beer–making it, reading about it, talking about it, and sharing it. I hope to translate that passion into engaging and thoughtful conversations with the people responsible for the beer I, and hopefully you, love.

I wonder about the idea of some day opening my own brewery. I hope to learn more through these conversations that might affect my own possible entry into the industry, one way or the other.  Whether I taking the plunge or not, I feel my interest combined with my overall experience as a podcaster will help me bring a unique and illuminating perspective.

Whether you are a fellow home brewer, an enthusiast, or yourself part of the industry, I hope to find and share stories you will enjoy.

Why start near where I live? I have wanted to undertake a podcasting project that involves travel for quite some time. I feel like these conversations could very naturally help me realize that desire. I have to start somewhere while I figure out how to gather the resources that will make traveling for the podcast feasible.

In addition, my hometown has a great beer scene. There are a lot of beer writers and even podcasters covering the greater DC area and Baltimore and not so much any right around here. The Montgomery County beer scene is unique and growing at an astonishing pace. I want to learn more about it and I am sure I am not the only one.

The state, the region, and beyond? I am very proud of my local breweries. I love to travel and to find the spots wherever I go that the locals are proud of. As the project grows, I want to be able to expand the conversations I start with my hometown breweries to beer folks wherever I find them.

What’s Next? I need to record and produce the first few episodes. Stay tuned for more on that front soon. In the meantime, I wanted to write about this project to hopefully get a conversation going.

I will be experimenting with Patreon, something new to me as a creator. I hope I can use it and other tools to gather a bit more support especially to fund travel as part of this project. I have a few ideas for rewards for patrons–early access to episodes, bonus audio, brewery specific bonuses like perhaps home brew recipes for signature commercial beers. Let me know what you would like to see.

I already have a few nearby breweries in mind and will be contacting them in the coming week to start scheduling some time with them. Let me know too who you would like me to seek out for a great conversation.

Chase what calls you!
